Pennsylvania Votes! An Obama Close 2nd is Victory
Clinton's "inevitable" presidential campaign will be viewed as a loser in tomorrow's Pennsylvania primary if Barack Obama--who was behind in polls by 20 points--comes in a close second!
Pennsylvania is a made-for-Clinton state. It's packed with seniors. It's African American population is relatively small. It's governor is party boss Fast Eddie Rendell, a Clinton operative. A vast stretch of the state is Appalachian.
Additionally, Clinton has pounded Obama on a series of cultural/racial issues (including Rev. Wright, Ayers, elitism, etc.).
While Clinton appears likely to win Pennsylvania, the margin of victory may not be large enough to cause a dubious Democratic Party to give her the nomination. If the Clinton/Rendell machine pull off a PA blow-out, Hillary lives on to fight Obama in North Carolina, Oregon and Indiana--states that currently have Obama ahead.
However, a close 2nd by Obama will cause Clinton's shaky campaign--a campaign that's been poorly managed, bleeding red ink and disliked by most Democrats--to collapse.
With the Obama endorsements last week by Sam Nunn, David Boren and Robert Reich, it's clear many party elders hope for the latter.
