I read a very disturbing blog posting this morning and was hoping that with all of your respective outreach potential we can collectively spread the word to encourage our communities to vote this election day and not allow the "dark side" to regain control of Congress, which will be a stampede on all of our lives. (I have a minor NYC-area television appearance in the next few days and will try to get this in!)
Naturally, there are people who seem to be gravitating toward the GOP (or are already there), but that shouldn't stop those of us who lean more left from doing what we can to at least get people to vote--and more importantly to get their entire families to vote--it's time to emphasize our political strength and the GOP is fiercely anti-Latino, unless you're a Florida Cuban.
The Republicans are BANKING on lack of Latino enthusiasm and this rings with bells of terror in my imagination (sorry for the Edgar Allan Poe-ish terminology), but I will do what I can in the Latino literary universe to inspire people to utilize the power of their vote and, by abstaining from this election, allowing the pendulum to swing back to George Dubya style tyranny. I will not allow myself to be intimidated by GOP gestapo tactics and hope we can all lend a hand here...
My best to all of you on all your hard work and Latino actvism.
Sincerely,
Charlie Vázquez
